We hope everyone's summer is off to a wonderful start. Here, in Minnesota, summer is here: mosquitos, mosquitos & more mosquitos! Tis the season of lakes, bonfires, boating and cabins. 

Here at Sunrise, we want to help kick off the season with some monthly specials and news.

Monthly Featured Breads: Starting this June, we are starting a monthly featured bread at our retail store in Park Edition, Hibbing. Each month we will feature one of our artisan breads that our bakers have been hand-crafting and perfecting. We are starting simple with our Famous Italian Bread. All June, our unsliced Italian Bread will be available for $1.99. 

Online Product of the Month: Each month we feature a product on our online store. This month's featured product is biscotti! All month, choose one of our scrumptious varieties for $8.99. These twice-baked cookies are great for dipping in your favorite wine, tea or coffee. 

Father's Day Special: Shop for dad online this year. On June 5th, we are offering a Father's Day Special at our online store. All products will be twenty-five percent off. Use code: THXDAD2014. Products will ship in time for Father's Day.

Tiramisu: A Winter Pick-me-up

As winter wears on, we all search for a much needed pick-me-up. May we suggest tiramisu?

This popular Italian dessert blends the rich flavors of cocoa and espresso with mascarpone cheese, all layered with lady-fingers. Tiramisu translates quite literally to "pick-me-up."

The name carries two legends. The first is that the rich espresso in this dessert provides anyone a much needed pick-me-up. The second is that the legendary splendor of this Italian delicacy causes its consumer to swoon and thus, cry out "pick-me-up!" Here at Sunrise, we would like to add a third: that in the monotony of a late Minnesotan winter, this favorite Italian dessert provides that much needed pick-me-up to get us through the winter! 

Sunrise carries Tiramisu year around. It frequents our bakery as a weekly special and is available for special order at anytime and in all sizes. To treat your dinner, holiday or party guests to this favorite, call us to special order. Or follow our recipe below to create this sensation yourself.

Tiramisu

2/3 cup sugar

1/4 cup water 

4 large egg yolks

1/2 t. vanilla

9 ounces mascarpone

4-6 T. dark rum

1 cup heavy cream

6 ounces Italian ladyfingers

1/3 cup espresso coffee 

3 ounces dark sweet chocolate, grated

In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and water, bring to a boil, stirring over medium heat. Continue to boil, brushing down the sides of the pan with a brush dipped in cold water, until a candy thermometer registers 240 degrees F., or it reaches the soft-ball stage.

In a bowl, using an electric mixer, beat the yolks until they are combined, then add the sugar syrup in a stream. Beat until cool. Beat in the vanilla. In a bowl, whisk the mascarpone and rum until smoothe. In another bowl, beat the heavy cream until it holds soft peaks. Combine the egg mixture with the mascarpone. Fold in the heavy cream.

Line a six-cup serving dish with the ladyfingers and drizzle the espresso over them. Spoon in the mascarpone mixture, smoothing the top, and chill, covered with plastic wrap, for at least three hours.

Before serving, sprinkle the top with the grated chocolate.
